LHS Grad Enjoyed Run for Miss America, Will Join Homecoming

Manitowoc Lincoln High 2012 alumnus Courtney Pelot represented her hometown and state "with grace and poise" at the Miss America contest this month in Atlantic City, a leader told the Herald Times Reporter.

In the end, the crown went to Miss Arkansas.

But Pelot, who has made literacy her campaign since being named Miss Wisconsin in June, says she enjoyed the rare experience in the national limelight, made lasting friends and already is planning reunions with fellow contestants. She also wasted no time jumping back into her Miss Wisconsin role, handing out books to children at Milwaukee schools and promising to take part in hometown events, including Lincoln High's Homecoming Parade at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30.

Pelot told the newspaper: "I love to come home to see friends and family and serve the community I grew up in and love so much."
